Information You Send Directly
Messages sent through a contact channel may include a name, email address, and the question the sender chooses to provide. Do not send Social Security numbers, financial-account numbers, vital-record images, or other sensitive documents.
Automatic Technical Data
Like most websites, the service and its providers may log basic device, browser, IP-address, referring-page, and usage information needed for security, diagnostics, and operation. We do not build a public person profile from that information.
How Limited Data Is Used
Contact information is used to respond to a request, address security or technical issues, and operate the reference. It is not sold as a resident list or used to change, create, or authenticate any government record.
External Record Links
Oakland Residents Directory links to county, state, library, archive, and third-party resources. Those destinations operate under their own privacy notices, terms, fees, and collection practices. Review the policy on the destination before submitting information there.
When Data May Be Shared
Information may be shared with vendors that help operate the service, or when law requires disclosure or it is necessary to protect rights, safety, or security. We do not control disclosures made by an outside government custodian after a visitor follows its link.
Data Security
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for the limited data we handle. No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, so visitors should avoid transmitting sensitive personal information through a general contact route.
Visitors Under 18
The reference is not directed to children under 18. If a parent or guardian believes a child supplied personal information, contact us so the request can be reviewed and addressed.
Your Privacy Choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold by using the Contact page. Michigan has no general consumer privacy statute identified in the project research; Michigan FOIA, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231–15.246, governs requests to public bodies, not removal of public records from this private reference. Requests to alter a public record must go to its custodian.
Changes to This Policy
A revised policy will be posted here when practices change. Continued use after publication of an update means the visitor accepts the revised policy.
