1. Nature of the Reference
Oakland Residents Directory is privately operated. It describes and links to public record indexes, official search tools, and historical collections relevant to Oakland County, Michigan. It holds no government record and is not affiliated with an office, court, library, archive, or custodian.
2. Acceptable Use
Use the reference only for lawful purposes. You may not use it or anything reached through it to:
- stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, or harm a person;
- find someone protected by a restraining or protective order;
- commit identity theft, fraud, or another unlawful act;
- make an FCRA-regulated decision about credit, employment, housing, insurance, or tenant screening;
- scrape, copy, or republish its content at scale; or
- interfere with the service, its security, or another user.
3. No Consumer Reports
Oakland Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. No material here or from a linked search tool is a consumer report, and it may not be used for an FCRA-covered decision.
4. Outside Services
Government portals, library databases, sponsored search tools, and other destinations have their own rules, privacy notices, availability, and fees. We do not control their content, results, data practices, or operation.
5. No Warranties
The reference is provided as available and without warranties. We do not promise that content is complete, current, accurate, secure, uninterrupted, or suitable for a particular use, or that a linked source will return a result.
6. Liability Limits
To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or other damages arising from use of this reference or an outside resource linked from it.
7. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operators from claims, damages, costs, and reasonable attorneys’ fees arising from your misuse of the reference or violation of these terms.
8. Intellectual Property
Original text, design, logo, and layout are protected by law. Linking to a page and quoting a brief attributed excerpt is permitted; republication of full pages or systematic copying is not.
9. Term Updates
These terms may be revised by posting an updated version here. Continued use after an update is posted indicates acceptance of the revised terms.
10. Ending Access
We may suspend or restrict access without notice when a user violates these terms, harms the service, or creates a security or legal risk.
11. Michigan Law
Michigan law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Michigan FOIA, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231–15.246, governs public-record requests to Michigan public bodies; it does not make this private reference a public body or create access to exempt records.
12. Severability
If a provision of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect to the fullest extent allowed by law.
